Diary #7

Today i decided to think about other possible options for my music video. As i have stuck with my idea from the begining i thought it might be a good idea to just think about other possible ideas.

One idea i have had is to use Express Yourself - Labrinth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=III3G1egUcU using this video as inspiration to create an entertaining up beat music video.

For example, i might have different scenarios of how people might 'express themselves'. I.e. a goth piling on dark make up and putting on heavy metal music, or an artist completely destroying a white room in coloured paints. I thought this would be a fun and interesting video to watch.

Also when listening to the song i had various ideas on how i might use editing of different shots of people clicking when the song says 'click your fingers now', and have the screen filled with all the different people clicking.

Diary #6

This week i have successfully created my Production Logo!! I decided to name it 'Manzanero Productions' for obvious reasons...

This was a very difficult process, as it was my first every time working with Adobe After Effects. I have discovered that the programme is extremely confusing and complex and shouldnt be used by someone who has not yet mastered Photoshop, purely because it is on another level of difficulty.

To create my logo i needed some guidence, as i had no clue how to even begin. To get some creative ideas, i visited http://www.videocopilot.net/ .
Within this website there are many many videos that provide tutorials on how to create effective videos in terms of After Effects, and a lot of them include how to make a good production logo.

The video I decided to use as my inspiration was the 'Energy Wipe' animation that shows how a cloud of coloured smoke can float onto the screen and reveal some writing, that begins in warp type animation and then changes to a straight form of lettering.

I had to experiment with features within After Effects such as Pre-composition and how to change the positioning within the text.

However, after two hours of messing around with different colours, designs and so on, i feel i created a very good production logo.

Diary #5

I have now completed my research into existing labels. I decided to do this in the form of Premier Pro, in order to highlight my skills when working with different media platforms.

Within my research, I looked at Sony Music Entertainment and EMI music, purely because these are two of the biggest record labels and have helped to talent scout and form music idols such as Frank Sinatra and The Beatles.

I researched into how the music labels have built their way up into being successful companies and the influence other companies have had on them.

This has been very helpful as it has informed me more on the way the music industry works in terms of creating music producers and the way the companies begin in the first place.

Existing Music Videos

I decided to look into some existing music videos, in order to find out a little bit more about the music industry. This was beneficial as it allowed me to understand how companies develope from nothing and also informed me on the many stages and process' within each record company.
This also gave me some interesting insight on how some music artists have developed and allowed me to recognise how some artists develop purely because of their music label. Meaning if an artist or band is signed to a bad music label, they will not have as much of a chance to develope into 'Superstars'.

Diary #4

Today i pitched my music video idea to my family, i did this so that i could get a range of audiences opinions and feelings about my music video. I also felt it could give me honest criticism, helping me to think about faults that i might not have noticed before hand.

Overall, the reaction i got was positive. My family liked the idea of the reverse action, and commented on how that could be both surprising and visually pleasing. My sister felt it could grasp the audiences attention well, forcing them to stay locked onto the story, as they would be hugely interested in why the scene is being repeated after such a shocking scene.

My dad posed the question: "Why did she wake up in a field? Why is she there to begin with?"

This made me think that this could be a big fault within my music video. The idea that she has woken up in a field, and woken up with ripped clothes could give the wrong impression, portraying her in a very negatively vulnerable position. However, as I know that i mean to portray her as have just woken up after a night out i didn't see how others might not see this.

Therefore, i began thinking about how i could change this negatively vulnerable portrayal of the girl to the way i want it to be. Therefore, i decided, i would show the girl, before the music has even began, stumble out of a pub and then fall asleep on a bench. I will then begin the music video, showing her wake up on a bench. I feel this will clarify her reasoning for waking up early in public.

Diary #3

Today I decided to focus on what each part of my research has given me in terms of preparation for my music video.

I read over what research i have completed already and thought about what it has done for me and what its purpose was. This has been beneficial as it has reminded me of what is important to think about. For example, by looking at the 'conventions of a music video' presentation I previously made, i began thinking about how i might use the bright lighting of the sun (if i manage to film on a sunny day at my location) to reflect through the main characters hair in the opening shot of her waking up. I felt this would work quite nicely, as the song choice is going to be calm and peaceful and i feel it might reflect the mellow tone of the music video, making the action of the car crash later shock the audience more.
